Make Age Just a Number Part II – Skincare

Part I of Make Age Just a Number, addressed age preventative measures. Now, let’s talk about how your skincare routine can help with the aging process. You’ll see from below that I use a lot of skincare products. Why? Well, I believe it is important to take care of your skin and, I like using an array of products. Whether you use a lot or a few skincare products, you can take care of your skin and reduce the signs of aging by at least following these three steps: 1) cleanse 2) moisturize 3) exfoliate.

Cleanse

Even if you don’t wear makeup, it’s important to clean your face every day (this means more than a splash of water!). A lot of women say they don’t like wearing foundation because their skin can’t breathe. I believe that foundation helps protect my skin from “things” floating around in the air (more on this in Part III of this blog series), which is why it is even more important that I remove it at the end of the day. Not only am I removing my makeup, I’m removing all the “things” it prevented from reaching my skin.

Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser: I used Pond’s for as long as I can remember, learning about it from my mom. I use it to remove my eye makeup. It does a great job removing all my eye makeup (even waterproof!). The skin around your eyes is the thinnest of any other skin on your face. Plus, it tends to show lines sooner than some other areas of the face. Pond’s work is great to remove my eye makeup, but it also provides a little moisture.

Origin’s Check and Balances Frothy Face Wash: It’s important to find a face wash that cleanses without drying out your skin. The Origin’s face wash does a great job of removing even the longest-lasting makeup.

Moisturize

Ok, this is where I’m probably going to scare you. I use a lot of moisturizer products. They all do something a little different and what I use in the morning (before my makeup), is not the same as I use at night before going to bed. However, if an arsenal of skincare products is not for you, one or two items are better than none.

My morning routine:

Face: GinZing Oil-Free Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer or OleHenriksen C-Rush Vitamin C Gel Moisturizer. I switch back and forth between these two moisturizers. I don’t like anything too heavy since I will be putting a primer and foundation on top.

Eyes: GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff or OleHenricksen Banana Bright Eye Creme. Like my face moisturizer, I switch back and forth between these two eye moisturizers. I find that using an eye moisturizer helps fight those fine lines and helps your eye makeup go on smoother.

My evening routine:

Face: Tarte Maracuja Oil I love this product. Even though it is an oil, it sinks in quickly and does not leave your face greasy.

Eyes: Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb This eye moisturizer is a little heavier than what I use during the day but is perfect for a nighttime eye treatment.

I also use a lip balm to help moisturize my lips.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin is one of the most crucial skincare steps there is. Remove dead skins, and smoothing out the surface not only allows your makeup to go on better, but it also allows any moisturizer to sink in. Read my previous post on why exfoliating is a must.

I use OleHenricksen Transforming Walnut Scrub a couple of times a week. This scrub does a great job of leaving my skin soft and glowing, but it also smells delicious!

The OleHenricksen Power Bright 3-Step Professional Brightening System is the next best thing to going to a spa for a professional facial. I use it every couple of months.

Whether you have an arsenal of skincare products like me, or opt to go with just one or two, making sure your skin stays clean, hydrated and exfoliated can help slow down the signs of aging.

Until next time, stay beautiful!
